Step inside this journey to the Hill of Tara, Teamhair, through the Mound of the Hostages.
Follow the golden rays of the rising Samhain sun that guides you inside this ancient chamber, to descend into the darkest part of the year in the northern hemisphere.
An Forradh - The Royal Seat
The Mound of the Hostages, built around 3,500 BCE, has a solar alignment at Samhain (Oct-Nov) and Imbolg (Feb) which means that the rising sun shines his rays into the dark womb shaped chamber.
The Lia Fáil - the Stone of Destiny, originally stood guard outside the entrance to the Mound of the Hostages. It was moved in 1824 to it’s present location on The Royal Seat, An Forradh, in the centre of the fort.
Stones should not be moved!
