The magical stillness and timeless serenity instantly engulfs me on my visit to Lough Gur during a pilgrimage home to Ireland last July. Tranquility descends.
A solace anchors deep within me, soothing my soul and leaving a lasting impression. For I had not journeyed to this place growing up in Ireland. We always travelled South-West from my home in Dublin, rarely stopping for long in Limerick other than to picnic and refuel. Eager to arrive at our relatives in West Kerry & Cork.
But Irish Goddess Witch Áine is persistent in calling me home to her lands.
To tread gently, soles to soil, awakening the memories of her ancient landscapes at her home in Ireland.
She calls me first to soak up the magic of her crystalline waters of Lough Gur. Waters that bubble up from underground springs.
Primordial waters older than Mother Earth.
Otherworldly waters.
The horseshoe shaped Lough pulsates ancient energies of stillness and tranquility. The small grassy hill of Knockadoon sits on these waters as the place of the entrance to Tír na nÓg. The Land of Youth, of the Forever Young.
Steeped in myth and ancient lore, I am mesmerized. Enchanted by the deep silence of this place.
I feel the activation of ancient Celtic Codes within me.
The magic was only just beginning! Travelling to the other side of Lough Gur to The Grange Stone Circle. The largest stone circle in Ireland inhabited for over 6,000 years.
Entering from an easterly direction just like the rising sun does, I stretch out my hand to run my fingers lightly over the stones, giant boulders that adorn the entrance. I notice the wave like markings fossilised in time.
I remove my sandals with an ancient knowing that I am entering a very sacred space.
Lush green grass between my toes, feeling the energy beneath my feet. A few steps more and I am inside the stone circle being welcomed by these ancient rocks as storykeepers.
I greet each stone and walk the circumference of the circle. I’m magnetically drawn to the largest of the stones, Rannach Chruim Duibh(Crom Dubh’s Division).
This giant Orthostat rests upon Ley Lines, guarding these powerful energy lines traversing Mother Earth’s body.
The pulsating power of this place is breathtaking.
We are here alone, my family and I, however the rhythm of ancient ancestral activity vibrates methodically from the land.
Like a lullaby being hummed as if singing me awake!
We sit beneath the ancient Ash Tree. A sacred regal tree.
We eat our sandwiches to the sound of the summer birds and the wind through the leaves. The stone circle looks even bigger and grander from this perspective.
Ash provides a cooling shade from the hot summers day. I think of the many sacred trees that inhabited Ireland long ago and the magical healing powers of the Ash tree.
I am at peace.
